New LISD Graduation Requirements - Help Strengthen Flower Mound Texas Home Values

The State of Texas new graduation requirements were adopted by the Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees on December 14, 2009. These graduation plan changes will be effective in the 2010 - 2011 school year and include the following;
1. Droping requirements for a technology applications class and a health class.
2. Reduces the required credits for physical education by 1/2 credit. PE related non-athletic credits is now 5 1/2 and the maximum number of athletic related credits that count toward graduation is 4.
3. Work related and Career/Technology courses no longer count toward PE. They still count as an Elective or a Science credit, depending on the course.
4. Students in External PE can earn up to 1 1/2 credits in PE.
5. External PE cost will be the same as the 2009 - 2010 school year.
* Middle School - $75 per semister or $150 for a full year.
* High School - $100 per nine-week period, $150 for 18 weeks or $250 for a full year.

These actions by the State and Lewisville ISD should help strengthen the Flower Mound Texas Real Estate market.

New Fencing Standards & Its Effect On Flower Mound Texas Real Estate

New Fencing Standards were passed on December 17, 2009 by the Flower Mound Town Council and should prove to be a winner for Flower Mound Texas Real Estate property owners in the years ahead.

Guidelines include;
1. Materials - Western red cedar in medium brown color or a composit wood/material in redwood color. Front yard setbacks must be tubular steel.
2. Design - Board on board and a horizontal trim on top for wood or wood like materials with a height maximum of 6 to 8 feet and cannot be higher than an adjoining masonary wall. Six-foot fences must have three rails/stringers and eight foot fences must have four rails/stringers.
Tublar steel fencing may not exceed four feet.

New standards apply to all new fence construction or replacement of existing fencing.

This is just another positive action taken by the Flower Mound Town Council to help maintain and increase the longterm value of your Flower Mound TX home.

Flower Mound Texas Real Estate Not a Priority in Legislature

Flower Mound Real Estate isn't a key issue in the 81st Texas Legislature.

Texas Senator Jane Nelson's main concern with the Texas Legislature's reconvening today will be transportation, which she lists along with health and education as being her priorities.

She says that the state's budget is in the black, better than many others, but that spending will need to be controlled and limited to maintain it.

Nelson said that transportation was a key issue, and has to be put as the top priority.

“In this area, transportation is a key issue,” she said. “This is not only a quality-of-life issue for our area, but transportation impacts our economy, air quality, the flow of goods and services, and the ability of public safety personnel to respond in an emergency. We need to make sure our transportation needs are met.”

State Representative Tan Parker, also of Flower Mound, says keeping the budget in the black will be his main objective as well, and doubts that school budgets will see many changes. He feels that reducing property and business taxes are among his priorties, as well as illegal immigration and protecting voters' rights.

Also to be addressed is the state-wide ban on smoking in indoor public and private workplaces, and better healthcare for children, senior citizens, and disabled residents.

Flower Mound Texas real estate is not as depressed as in many areas of the nation. The town's many amenities makes it an attractive place to live and keeps the housing market strong.

Denton Area Gets New Autumn Leaves Home

Flower Mound Library Receives Award

Flower Mound enjoyed the recognition of receiving one of 20 awards from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. The Achievement of Excellence Award for 2007 was given to 20 of the 565 libraries in Texas, and Flower Mound was one of the ones honored.

The winning libraries had to meet several requirements to be considered, which included having summer reading programs, and a website.

Other cities in the winning 20 included Bedford, Burleson, Haltom City, Hurst, and Richland Hills. Congratulations to the Flower Mound library folks! Another shining example of why it's great to call Flower Mound Texas home!
